As its name indicates, medical masks are used in the health care environment on a regular basis. Healthcare personnel use surgical masks when there is no danger of contagion by aerosols in the operating room, but when they are in contact with a patient with covid-19, they usually use the FFP2 or FFP1 protection masks, the latter having a higher protection capacity.
WHO has advised since the beginning of the pandemic that both patients affected by the coronavirus and their caregivers should wear medical masks.
Their use is not necessary for non-infected persons, since the use of non-medical masks and also those made of fabric, combined with the social and hygiene distancing measures that have been repeated since the beginning of the pandemic, are useful for them.
